When to go to the Emergency Room
Emergency Rooms (ERs) are designated for critical and life-threatening medical situations. They are equipped to manage trauma, perform diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, conduct surgical procedures, and provide advanced emergency care. You should seek immediate attention at your nearest ER if you experience any of the following:
- Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) resulting from food or animal/bug bites
- Chest pain
- Persistent or uncontrollable vomiting
- Ongoing or excessive bleeding
- Significant shortness of breath
- Deep or complex wounds
- Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body
- Head injuries
- Unconsciousness
Be Prepared
Whether you are visiting a walk-in center or an emergency room, it is advisable to bring a complete list of all medications you are currently taking. This should include prescription medications, dosages, over-the-counter products, and any vitamins or supplements. Many medications, and even vitamins, can interact with treatments your provider may recommend. Having accurate information about your medical history enables your provider to make a precise diagnosis and develop an effective care treatment plan.
